Tony Rynders on Global Warming
I have had the pleasure of participating in several panel discussions in the last few years. One of the most frequently discussed topics is the concept of global warming. Everyone wants to know how we are dealing with it. With today's temperatures in the 50's and the growing season in the northern Willamette Valley already at least two weeks behind, the idea seems to be off the mark. Perhaps the more appropriate discussion should be about climate change. And this feature is something that constantly demands attention in the world of winemaking.
In order for the growing and making of fine wines to be sustainable, we need to adapt to the climatic differences that are unique to each vintage. The weather patterns in the Pacific Northwest present more challenges than some other regions. The key to success lies in the ability to be proactive throughout the growing season so that the quality of the resulting wines is maximized. All of the work done in the vineyard is directly proportional to the resulting finished wines. The more effort spent early pays the highest dividends.

I love this guy like a brother. Seriously, Tony has made the best wine I have ever tasted. I believe he can turn a potential negative like climate change into a positive to create wines of a unique nature.
